Having watched half of series 4, I have to say I think this show is very harsh on the contestants and I'm not convinced they fully understand the ramifications when they get involved e.g. the full extent of the costs incurred for the bridging loan, council tax, estate agent fees etc... leaving them with little to no reward at the end.
Often they have worked crazy hours including family, friends, and anyone who will help, plus held down a full-time job too. It must be shattering for them. Only those with access to skills such as a plasterer/plumber for a father can really make a win.
What's more, contestants don't seem to receive good guidance about appropriate time and budget planning - or not doing any more than the bare minimum in order to spruce up the house and sell it on. They are complete novices, often very naive and desperate to get on the housing ladder - and it does come across as exploitative.
Most of the houses are bought at auction, unseen and are absolute shockers, full of dampness, rot, and worse. I would strongly advise anyone interested not to take part!
