My assessment is based on an average of the half star I would give it, and the four stars my kids would give it. That landed me at a solid two stars. Then I perused the reviews and found many BS five-star ratings, from copy and paste, to uninformed babble, and a smattering of political and social justice rants thrown in. I wanted to lower it to one star because of all that. However, there were some schyte one star ratings as well. Shills will be shills on either side of the spectrum. Thus I left it at 2 stars.
Being a tremendous fan of the book series I give it a .5 or a half star. WoT was the first fantasy series that I read as an adult. It was extremely impactful considering where my psyche was developmentally. The TV series leaves me empty from that perspective. In the moments where I could separate from the book, and the maybe 20% of the time when the source material shines through, I would have found it close to three stars. So if you've never read the books and enjoy all the other modern fantasy series out there, consider this a three-star rating.
My boys have watched and enjoy the series and by their estimate they would give it a four star rating. They're both huge fans of the LOTR movies, the GOT series, and Last Kingdom, so I consider their four stars very valid! Neither one of them like to read, there is no way they would ever make it through WoT. Even, as much as they love the LOTR movies, they would never have the patience to make it through the first book! It's a shame, they really don't know what they're missing.
So... A half a star from the old curmudgeon that loves the books and four stars from the youngins who like to watch TV winds up around two stars, and that feels about right...
