I refrained from reading the short story or anything about the plot because I wanted to be completely unaware of the details. This is a classic jump-scare, mildly gorey, very satisfying scary summer flick. The vibe is full-on Sinister and James Ransone as the sleuthing coke-head brother is worth the price of admission. The soundtrack itself is an important character and needs some appreciation. Love horror movies about teenagers that I wouldn't let my own teenagers see.
