Shaneel’s book is a graceful, visual of their story so far. I felt the childhood joy in the early chapters, I understand that rage and I felt like I was there with them. In a way, like a lot of us, I was there for some of that journey. The book made me have a good look at myself and my community, that we relied on Shaneel to give us direction when we should have been sharing the load they were carrying.
I loved this book from start to finish. Every part was delicious, powerful and the painful experiences Shaneel went through, hell, still goes through at the hands of our own community, right wing bigots and other idiots - we need to do better. Most people would not have the poise and tact of Shaneel, most people would rage yet they consistently serve and read tf out of people in a way I wish I could do. They should be allowed to rage and scream, yell at people etc but as a QBIPOC in the limelight they aren’t afforded that privilege.
I love Shaneels writing and I can’t wait to have more.
