It was an OK movie. I just wanted to like it more.
There is something about setting it in the 1950s nostalgia-like atmosphere that didn't work for me.
The 1950s, especially as it is portrayed here, is complerely unrelatable, like the false movie set of Singing in the Rain or West Side Story.
While the main cast had something more three-dimensional about them, there was a hollow, corny, inauthentic vibe that permeated the the world and two-dimensional characters that surrounded them.
Strangely, I preferred the new Superman movie to this. The main character is also a throwback, almost to the point naive and simple, yet it worked all together because he was surrounded by more relatable characters.
