If you absolutely love movie musicals, you’ll find some enjoyment out of it. That’s being generous. Now for the reality. We all love Lucy. The queen of comedy throughout 3 successful television shows. But when it came time for casting, the only person who should have been considered was Angela Lansbury. She could sing, dance, and was the right age for it. Lucy was too old, could not dance very well at all, and definitely couldn’t sing! As a result … the film bombed. It’s been reported she pushed hard to get the role. She had no idea how detrimental her defiance would affect the film’s legacy. I’m still waiting for the bad taste this film left in my mouth to leave, by having a remake done to correct this 1974 mistake. In the 90s I read a tv version with Cher was a consideration. So wished that happened.
