It's entirely insane and decadent, and that's what makes it great. Image and theme is as important as narrative, sometimes more. And there are plenty of moments where the actors are having genuine loopy fun, and very few directors will allow that.
You don't expect avant-garde from this director or these actors, but that's what they're doing. Just jump in!
