The premise was catchy but the style was flat. I gave up after a third of the book. The characters were so lacking in affect that I couldn’t engage. Part of the problem is the tense. Third person writing puts the reader at a remove so it’s hard to care. The author seems to have made a list of all the evils that can befall the characters and then trudges through her list. She allots 2-4 pages to each reaction which doesn’t give the reader enough information to fathom the characters. This book is so flat it reads like non fiction !
