I am amazed that the people defending this absolute fraud of a documentary are incapable of understanding that no one is disputing that the guy was clearly a piece of garbage that traumatized his family and very possibly could have hurt or even killed others; however, as her "investigation" went on, she clearly could find nothing to even remotely connect him to anything so instead she started grasping at straws that even she clearly realized were ridiculous. There is nothing about that man that even hinted that he would be capable of creating the cyphers that stumped everyone for decades, yet it didn't prevent her from continuing to suggest it was possible and creating links that didn't exist. The entire project was embarrassing to watch and I too cannot for the life of me figure out why HBO / MAX would air it, which is why I had to look up the reviews and find out if others feel the same way...and boy do they!
