I’ve worked in EMS for over 10 years now, 9 of which as a paramedic and I’ve gotta say this is the most realistic movie I’ve ever seen. They must have some good consulting even down to how we move pts from the bed to the stretcher and how we have to intubate on some nasty bloody floor with no light. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get into ems. The only caution I would give is that the job is as fun as you make it. This does paint a pretty negative picture for what it is like, but its also what you make of it. I’ve really enjoyed my career so far and I’ve seen and learned so much in 10 years. I would say don’t let this movie discourage you from a career in ems, but also use it as a tool to prepare yourself. This takes place on night shift, and while it is very accurate to real life it does use the darkness to portray the career as mostly negative. I’ve met plenty of fantastic people in my patients and family of patients, had a lot of fun and there’s plenty of times where there is a good outcome for the pt. Not all times are dark, but we do live in a fallen world and unfortunately this portrays it very realistically.
