As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I approached The Acolyte with cautious optimism, hoping that Disney might finally deliver a series that captures the magic of the original saga. Making a show on the darker side of the force sounded like it could be a huge W for the brand. Unfortunately, my hopes were quickly crushed. If I could give this show 0 stars, I would.
The acting in is disappointingly dry. The cast delivers performances that feel wooden and lifeless. There is a palpable lack of chemistry between characters, making it hard to invest in their journeys or care about their fates.
The storyline is riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies. What could have been an intriguing exploration of the darker side of the Force instead feels like a disjointed mess. Just poor writing at best. For 180 million dollars I am blown away that Kenobi got half of that and was so highly anticipated for so many years by fans (also dumpster fire storyline).
The storytelling is downright boring. Episodes drag on with little to no meaningful development, making it a chore to watch. Episode 3, in particular, was exceptionally cringe-worthy, with dialogue and scenes that made me question how such content made it past the editing room.
As someone who has cherished the Star Wars universe since childhood, it pains me to see what Disney has done to the franchise. Since acquiring Lucasfilm, Disney's track record has been hit or miss, and The Acolyte is unfortunately another mondo miss. The magic, wonder, and excitement that George Lucas brought to the original trilogy seem like distant memories in the wake of this lackluster series.
It fails to live up to the legacy of its predecessors. How is KK still involved with this brand after so many losses blows my mind. Fans deserve better. Disney level up
