Incredible movie. The only fault I can find is that the most evil characters are not developed. The scary but most important part of the entire Nazi horror is that these were real people. Hitler wasn't some comic villain. He was a real person. It's uncomfortable to grapple with that but unless we do, we are doomed to repeat history. Beyond that, I was very impressed. As someone who has studied the concentration camps in depth I appreciated how they highlighted various cruelty. The most interesting character was the main Kapo. The narrator even explains him by saying, "give any prisoner a club and he becomes a jailer" - exactly! There was a wide spectrum of sympathy for the Nazis and everyone had their own motivations. As the United States of America is dealing with a striking rise of white supremacy (did you know the Proud Boys were only founded in 2016?) we are having to figure out where we land on the spectrum of modern racism. Trump is no Hitler. He frankly isn't that smart and the US Constitution is stronger than what Germany had after WWI. But the dehumanization of others is the same. Blaming immigrants or "the others" because you want a scapegoat isn't any different than how the Nazi party took over their political system. And using fear, fake news and threats of violence is also from the Nazi playbook. It's easy to look back at pretend you would have been one of the good guys but did you do anything when we stole children at the southern border? Did you fall for the lies about DNA testing? Forgive the soapbox but the parallels are truly mesmerizing.

Spectacular! Lifelong Republican here, so happy to see the FBI portrayed as honest. My party used to be about law and order. We used to value police at all levels. Comey, McCabe, Yates - these will be the heroes remembered from this ridiculous era. I am glad this came out in time to educate people. I pray we can see past our silos and this makes a difference. My biggest takeaway is to remind myself that before I get riled up with a Trumpist, that my frustration is exactly what Russia wants. Americans are good, honorable people. Let's disagree without being disagreeable. That's the only way we all win.
