I was so excited for this game and in the first few hours of gameplay I wanted it so bad to be good. Unfortunately, Redfall falls short of achieving anything outside being a fantasy reskin of Far Cry.
The gameplay itself is incredibly heartbreaking. From dummy AIs that, as individuals just stand there and require no real skill to take down, to boring vampire sequences that don't add much or build on a potentially really cool mechanic. You just fight safe house to safe house or retrieval missions, even in the story.
The characters are lackluster which isn't helped by the lack of cutscenes. Rather, like the still images we get in the story, the characters are just copy and pasted stereotypes who, again, have much more potentially to be unique. Playsble characters don't feel much different from one another and their abilities are half- baked.
I have heard that co-op is better, but lacks a reasonable progression system, however I've not played it.
I can't justify keeping it on my console despite really hoping that a few patches or DLC can bring it back to life. This has been compared to Cyberpunk at its first released which, I didn't play at first, but when I did, I found it to be an incredible game. Here's hoping Redfall follows suit.
It's not unplayable, but there are so many ideas and mechanics that needed some more time and thought put into them. The world is nice and fr didn't bother me, so no complaints there.
