The negative reviews are because people are looking for a happy story and facts about Marylin, but the movie "Blonde" demonstrates a tragic story about trauma, not Monroe. As a social worker, I can easily see that the fictional story, which was not intended to be a bibliography, has a clear and accurate depiction of how trauma impacts the brain and people’s reactions. Similar to the author of the Book, the character is a victim in a patriarchal society that experiences trauma and demonstrates how trauma impacts people. This movie is a glimpse into the mind of a person who has experienced these various traumas and that is what makes the story and the acting wonderful and brilliantly done.
Its a fictional story that tells a story of a woman named Norma Jeanne and had a similar traumatic upbringing to Marylin Monroe but is a fictional story originally written in a book by Joyce Carol Oats. The author often writes about people with trauma and how that effects people. Oats herself experienced many things similar to the character in her story, such as despair and trauma. She also grew up in a similar time period, trying to make it in a society run by men. She also had a relative locked in an institution. The author appears to be writing a fictional story of what she thought might have been Marylin Monroe’s experience, but it is the experience of many woman with trauma.
