This game has it all if you have empathy and understand that Tribalism is not a good thing.
The gameplay is similar to the first game with the addition of new mechanics like dodging and prone. Also, you can spend days on the Guitar "mini-game".
They also have an excellent variety of accessibility features that allow people who can't play normal video games due to being differently-abled.
The story is awesome too. It works IF you are smart enough to understand that a certain character's death had to happen, it had to happen early and it had to be senseless.
If you think that showing the killer and creating a connection first would have been "better" you don't understand that your new timeline would undermine the whole purpose of the narrative. Imagine if you see a stranger all the sudden kill a gay person or black person and later learn they grew up bigoted or racist and slowly grow to be anti-racist or anti-bigoted after getting to know one and gaining the understanding that everyone is human and doesn't deserve the hate. (That is a good story). Do you think wanting to first see that person grow up racist/bigoted, meet and befriend someone, and STILL kill them after having met them, after having gotten to know them as a human being, after having been presented with everything they needed to not be bigoted or racist, and still kill them based on their previous ideology is any better even if they later become anti-bigoted/anti-racist from some other narrative catalyst? You have to be really twisted to want that second story and think it is "better" at creating empathy.
If you believe in Us vs Them. If you care for your families, your culture, and those who share your ideals and also fear the Other and fear learning about others and expanding your mind and society to be more inclusive and less bigoted you are going to hate this game.
This is not a game for people who: believe in replacement theory, think CRT is bad, want to build a wall, think it is a good idea to separate children from their parents, think you should violate Human Rights and use deadly measures to prevent illegal immigration, or think giving Equal Rights to women and LGBTQ+ people somehow diminishes your Rights. This is not a game for those who lack empathy, are tribal, or believe Equality is Oppression. This is NOT the game for you if you don't see anything wrong with Joel leaving the family, with a CHILD, on the side of the road when Sarah was still alive. It IS a good way to determine the value system of someone and if they are worthy of your friendship.
