Very disappointing...the misportrayal of Napoleon the real loose cannon in this film about the genius battle strategian and legal reformer, upturning the class system and vested interests of the self-satisfied Wellington's of the world. Knowledge and study of history are important, Mr Scott...Knew it was dodgy from the start with a near pantomime portrayal of Marie Antoinette, a nervous wreck, not bolshy - making the next actual panto scenes feel superfluous. Josephine far too young, Napoleon far too old, what a role it would have been for an unknown 24 year old, as Napoleon was at the start. Phoenix reverting to maladapted loner sociopath which gets trite, no nuance. Wished the interval was a bit longer, would've been nice to get some ice-cream. Support more independent films, not these bloated career-trips, please. I like Scott's general hands-on, 'can do' approach across his films, so trying to end on a positive note, I liked the scale of the battle scenes, and the galloping horses, and the shots into the lake, and all the breakfast scenes...it is the most important meal of the day.
