I saw the movie last night at the drive in theater in lakeland Fl. It was quite the experience. We put the windows down and got blasted with the ganja all around us. Which was amazing because everyone smokes in just about every scene! You should be a bit familiar with Jamaican politics to truly understand. The struggles with the Honorable Robert Lightbourne ( Prime Minister) handing power over to Manley then ceaga . The gang violence, the gas shortages, political corruption, gaining independence from Great Britain in 1962. This movie takes place in 1976. The raw footage of Jamaica on fire was … well… FIRE. The island wasn’t portrayed as the gorgeous tourist destination that it was. There is one scene where they are swimming in the Falls , I’m assuming Dunns River Ocho Rios and it was muted , dark filtered. But the message is clear. Bob Marley was a magical human with a contagious spirit. His musical talent helped heal a Nation of people deeply wounded. The Exodus album catapulted him to global success but he eventually returns to his homeland - an 80 mile wide island with soulful people unlike anywhere else. The movie was nicely done. Great entertainment and a beautiful tribute to a beautiful artist.
