I have absolutely no idea why this gets so many good reviews. I found it passable at best and my husband doesn’t think any more of it than I do. I think Gary Oldman is an amazing actor, as is Kristin Scott Thomas, but I think both of their performances in this are formulaic and empty. I didn’t care about any of the characters. I think the writing is nothing special. I didn’t find it particularly funny, unique, interesting nor exciting. It looks good visually - it’s a solid and slick production but I just found it lacking anything special. I only saw season 1. Had no interest in seeing any more. I noticed a reviewer comparing it to killing Eve. To me, killing Eve was 10,000 times better than this in every single way.

Excellent. Annette Bening and Jodie Foster both deserve Oscar’s. Very inspiring and emotional film peppered with lots of heart and humor.

Very solid film. I leave this film with the sincere hope that men who watch it may think twice before they behave exactly like so many of the men in the film. I love how the writers made sure that Cassie never gives verbal consent. The men speak her consent for her, somehow convincing themselves it came out of her mouth instead of their own. I happen to be a woman who believes other women should behave responsibly so as not to tempt fate (and in NO way believe that irresponsible behavior is a green light for any form of assault), but I simultaneously believe men who prey on women who are clearly in a vulnerable state are pure slime. The movie does a great job of showing how two wrongs don't make a right. As a woman, the mens behavior doesn't come across as shocking or unusual at all - which is the genius of the film. It seems (sadly) almost expected. It would be far more surprising if any of these men just took her home and left her alone. Carey Mulligan was excellent in this film.
