JOKER:★★★★★
Director: Todd Phillips
Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro
Instead of capes and crusades, this one shows the grim reality of how the good can turn into evil with enough torment without justice. Villains aren't born, they are made.
This film tackles everything from mental illness, power abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse, bullying, neglect, trauma, special needs, failed government systems, emotional conditioning, and so much more!
It's a film everyone should watch. I don't say that lightly. It shows you easy it is to misunderstand someone looking from the outside in. How easy it is to not actually be present or listen. How much actually caring and showing compassion can make a difference in someone's life. Kindness costs nothing. Entertainment at the expense of someone else's soul isn't worth the laugh.
Don't only "like" those who you know are rich and powerful. Don't only care for those who can do something for you in return. Don't only give when you can boast and post about it later.
Gotham isn't imaginary. There are such cities in existence today around the world. We see "Jokers" in our real lives every time there is a mass shooting or any kind of a terrorist attack. Unfortunately there is no Batman out there. Each of us has to do our part to reach someone around us who needs their day saved today, rather than tomorrow, when it might be too late! Maybe your act of kindness will help them not go over the edge.
The film in it's entirety ( screenplay, pace, direction, score, cinematography, costume design, casting, etc) is outstanding! Joaquin Phoenix delivers and oscar worthy performance!
I'd watch it again.
