Oh my god this is still to this day one of favorite movies ever made! People nowadays call this movie overrated. But I go to my grave ranting about how it definitely is not and a masterpiece beyond comprehension! Everything is incredible! The acting, the soundtrack, the cinematography, the humor, the… just… wow. Sometimes people get obsessed with a film. I’ve heard people say Silence of the Lambs, Titanic, Godfather, Scarface, Iron Man, or Pulp Fiction. And all great films but if American Beauty and Fight Club weren’t movies that changed my life I don’t know what is. This is such unlike any best picture winner ever. One of only 2 films in the 90s set in present times to do so. So much vulgar humor and rated R subject matter often considered too taboo for the Oscars. Like Psycho or The Shining. How this film won over also great but more safe bets like The Green Mile or The Insider still baffles me. Incredibly thought proving film with much to say about human connection and generational matters. I’m definitely not ashamed to this is one of favorite films of all time.

I actually enjoyed the first two. They’re not perfect but I can sit down and enjoy them. But this one I just couldn’t. Once again Tom Hardy seems to be the only one that actually cares for the material. There’s almost a sense in the script and the final film no one cares to write out a good story or interesting characters. They just slapped something together without any effort. Characters come and go with the weakest motivations, repeat repetitive exposition, all of the fun moments you see in the trailer are pretty much what’s in the final film, the comedic moments fall so flat, the big moment the last film teased is pretty much forgotten about, and even the big villain of the film is only on screen for about 30 seconds! Even the ending is lazy. Pretty much the same ending in the first one! Oh this is the end. Or is it?! Very disappointing as Venom is one of my favorite characters.

Positives: It has a great setup. The setting is definitely creepy, the 3 central performances are fine, and it has some genuinely creepy moments! There’s a few instances I almost turned away! Negatives: As scary as the setup is, it doesn’t amount to much. The creepy moments are definitely creepy but over too fast. They never get a chance to really sit in. And the actual monster? To be honest you never really get a good look at it. If you’ve seen the posters and trailer thumbnail you’ve practically seen what’s in the final film. Which doesn’t even do much. Except harm an animal. And the ending is over too sudden and tied up in a little bow. Final verdict: Definitely has some creepy moments and great build up of suspense, but doesn’t let the terror sit in too long and is over too fast. And never getting a good look at the monster is a either love or hate relationship

Maybe because I watched it as a kid I still enjoy it. It’s definitely not a great film and has some poor special effects. But I can put it on and enjoy it. The premise is actually very interesting and has some great set pieces. The whole underwater tunnel sequences are actually pretty good. And when one guy even finds himself in the sharks mouth is still a very horrific scene.

I get it. It’s not Godzilla. The 3rd act is definitely a Jurassic Park rip-off, it’s got this goofy tone throughout, some of the acting is subpar... and yet I’ve always loved it! I guess because I was kid when I saw it. But today I can still watch it and enjoy the hell out of it.

One of my favorite films of all time! Some of the most explosive action I’ve ever seen! One cool shootout after the next. Cage and Travolta having the time of their lives, and doves. So many doves!
