I memorized half of this poem in the 6th grade and to this day I will start quoting with great flourish whenever I feel like it. I think a teacher made us write it out 20x for a punishment for something or other. (He was a great teacher! Wells Maine. I love this poem!

I read and did a book report on Ethan Frome in the 6th grade after just happening to grab it from the Wells Maine library. Felt all the things most people would feel upon reading it, but at that age I was morbidly interested in how...well, morbid it was. (I should google "morbid" to be sure its the right word, but that's what comes to me.) I remember I got an A for the report (with a slash/ C- for my punctuation) and clear as a bell I remember my teacher writing a comment on the front page; "You know, I never read Ethan Frome, but now I feel I must.)
