The show is rife with bad acting, cringeworthy character development, and action scenes that quickly become repetitively over the top and dull. It is like a woke take of Mad Max meets Dumber and Dumber, without any of the redeeming qualities that make those films good. Going into it, expectations were relatively low, given it’s based off a video game from the 90’s—but it doesn’t stay true to the game very well, nor build on the nostalgia in meaningful ways. It seems like they were more focused on checking boxes than delivering something fun: black lead actor, POC supporting actress, white male evil cop / cops bad, LGBT characters, anti-Christian mockery, white slave owners … It really is a garbage show but it’s to be expected, being a Peacock original and all.
