I definitely wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was! It is quite an Eli Roth movie with the choice of gore and violence included, and the kills are just so creative and fun in a way I haven't seen in more recent slashers. Definitely some good commentary about the greed of the holidays, especially Black Friday and how Thanksgiving almost feels like a time to make up for the blatant greed and capitalism by spending time with family and being grateful. The villain is ICONIC and has such a fun persona when in their costume and the big scene towards the end at the dinner table WAS CRAZY. I will say the ending gets a little muddled because it feels like there are just too many twists being thrown at you at once where it doesn't really need it. And I think I would have liked a more gruesome finality, especially for such a clever villain. Altogether its a bloody riot with such cheesy lines sometimes but the characters give it their all and I can appreciate that.
