Absolutely wonderful film! Viewers are drawn into the story from the onset. The portrayal of what conditions might have been like during WWI were spot on. The story was gripping and at times appropriately tense.
I can't understand some of the criticisms I've read. Germans being a lousy shot? Everyone is a lousy shot when running through rubble while shooting at someone also running through rubble, firing what is essentially a short barrel single shot bolt action 30-06.
Despite some reviewers complaints, the story did in fact end clearly and appropriately. All loose plot lines were tied up.
I agree that the plot is a little Saving Private Ryan like, but don't let that deter you from this film. It was very, very well done and time well spent. Everything from the scenery, to the cinematography, to the musical score were perfect.
