As a native New Yorker, when I think of Washington Heights I think of a beautiful mix of cultures but the predominant one being the Dominican culture. I felt the producers completely missed an opportunity to amplify the beauty of their Afro-Latinidad. Colorism is a big deal within the CaribLatin community and Latinos as a whole. I feel like this story should have just been called El Barrio, cuz that can be any Latino melting pot community, and that what this movie focused on more so. And are there NO actors of Dominican heritage that could’ve played Usnavi or better yet his Uncle?... they picked two of the most Boricua actors out there lmao. Go see it anyway 🤷🏽♀️👍🏽💪🏾
