Joseph Heller was an American writer who has written various satirical novels, short stories and plays. Although he wrote several acclaimed novels, his reputation rests firmly on his masterpiece, the great American anti-war satire, Catch 2, which is a satirical war novel set in the background of World War II, Catch-22 depicting the life and career of Captain John Yossarian- B-25 bombardier with the U.S. Army Air Force, and the other members of the fictional 256th Squadron. Throughout Heller's novel, the narration jumps around in time, but as the book nears its ending, the story not only becomes clearer and more linear. We see that he realizes that there is only one way he will make it out of the war alive with his morals somewhat intact — to run.
