This novel is supremely well written but keeps the reader on his toes following the switching of characters among the chapters. The author has distilled much of what it would mean to achieve immortality as a flesh and blood human being and why it would be almost impossible to be satisfying. This is a good story well told but the message is clearly much deeper than first imagined and the outcome is surprising but not too surprising, reminding me of the comments of Oppenheimer and Einstein after WWIi.
