The genius that is Dark cannot easily be put into words. This show, the writing & acting, is in the caliber of Breaking Bad, The Wire, Game of Thrones...in fact (regarding the most latter) Dark has renewed my faith in show writers and their ability to finish a series as well as they started it. Even on the second watching, I’m seeing things explained I missed the first time. You absolutely cannot miss a single scene or piece of dialogue. There are no extraneous scenes or filler fluff; everything has a purpose. Even when you think “there’s no way they can make this make sense”, they manage to make it all come full circle. I’ve watched some with English dubbing & some in German with English subtitles, and I really think the only reason this show isn’t (yet) #1 worldwide is the fact that some audiences feel they can’t watch dubbed or subtitled shows. Those viewers are missing out. And the casting! They’re all cast so well, I thought they were the same actors with makeup to age them but they’re different actors! I’ve read some early reviews comparing this to Stranger Things, and while there are a few similarities (parallel worlds, great casting, acting & writing, some 80s settings) this is far above ST in that this is a show for adults and all that that implies, as well as there are no (non human) monsters. The characters are all grey with good and bad (as in reality), protagonists and antagonists become blurred. This is a once in a lifetime series. You may need to take notes or google a diagram, but you won’t ever forget Dark, the story(ies), the characters or the implications of the fact that the writers make it all seem plausible.
