The Acolyte is a complete disaster that fails to capture the essence of what Star Wars is supposed to be. It’s easily the worst Star Wars entry I’ve ever seen, and that’s putting it mildly. The over-reliance on death and despair makes it feel like a grim spectacle rather than an adventure in the galaxy far, far away. Every single likable or promising character is killed off, often in ways that feel pointless and contrived. Instead of developing their arcs or giving their sacrifices meaning, the show treats death as a cheap tool to shock the audience. There’s no emotional payoff—just a growing list of wasted potential. Each death feels like it happened in vain, contributing nothing to the story or the broader Star Wars universe.
As example Jecki Lon character had so much promise, but their arc was abruptly cut short for no reason other than to force an emotional response. Their death added nothing to the plot or character development, making it seem like the writers were just trying to thin the cast. Then there’s Yord Fandar who met a similar fate, killed off in a moment that was meant to be impactful but instead felt shallow because there was no emotional buildup. By the end, it feels like no one matters—characters are just expendable pawns in a chaotic, disjointed story.
What’s worse is how little respect the show has for the established Star Wars lore. It disregards the fundamental themes and tone that have made Star Wars beloved for generations. Gone are the hope, the adventure, and the moral dilemmas of light versus dark. Instead, we’re left with a joyless slog that substitutes shock deaths for storytelling and tension. In a universe known for its epic battles between good and evil, we’re stuck watching a parade of meaningless deaths, none of which carry any weight or purpose.
Visually, it might look good, but no amount of special effects can save a story so broken and out of touch with what fans expect from Star Wars. Ultimately, The Acolyte is a huge disappointment, and I can’t recommend it to anyone who values the spirit of the originals. And here’s the thing up until episode three it had some decent stuff. It’s like they went to episode three and then gave up. What a waste.
