After reading a handful of the 1 star reviews on this documentary it seems like most of them are upset because they feel a misrepresentation of small fisheries. It seems like the majority are saying that we should only be highlighting these large fishing enterprises, and branding them as bad. But praising the little guys.
While I agree with this I think the point people are missing is that the big bad fishermen of this world are causing so much damage that it’s Better to just cut off all fishing than make exceptions for some.
In this film they talk about how even the companies that are so called ethical are in fact aligned with the companies who are over fishing. If we allow any loopholes to remain, then this issue will continue. It would be better to stop fishing all together because it would have a greater impact on the fish levels returning faster and in greater numbers.
We need to separate our own feelings of wanting to eat this food we like and realizing that we need to stop eating it because we won’t have any fish at all in the future if we continue eating the way we are today.
If your mission is to just keep eating fish because they’ll be gone in 30 years so might as well get it in while we can, then you’re just part of the problem.
Regulate yourself and you will have fish to eat for the rest of your life.
Obviously the big companies are the main issues here. But we need to advocate for them to stop this over fishing as soon as possible.
