The minimalist musical accompaniment on this album highlights Iris Dement’s voice and makes it feel personal. Her voice and music regrettably go unheard by many and are an acquired taste for others who may learn, as I did, to appreciate her more with time. I think this may be my favorite album by DeMent and one of my favorites of all the albums I own. Although the genre is different, it reminds me of Blue by Joni Mitchell for its minimalism and feeling.
