First of all, many reviewers simply want to appear to be a fan of the series to seem like they are morally better, Im however, going to review it as a program. I'll keep this review short.
I so wanted to love this series but I cant, the writing is so bad its not even funny. Doctor who is meant to be light-hearted, sci-fi entertainment the whole family can enjoy from tiny children to the wisest adults. Sure, they always have a moral to the story arc but this later series is a joke. Take "Demons of the Punjab" which was episode 6. The episode was a boring lesson on the partition of India during 1947 which just so happened to have an alien in it. You could remove the alien and it wouldnt effect the story AT ALL. Instead we followed the story of a random family we dont care about. This would be fine for an educational CBBC program but this is mainly an entertainment program. But hey kids, whats more sci-fi entertainment then the Partition of India? Are. You. Serious?
Apart from the overly political episodes they beat us over the head with, the episodes fail because of the writers. Give doctor who a proper budget and proper writers who know how to craft a story. Gone are the days of doctor who where you had fun sci-fi, mixed with actual emotion and storytelling. Jodie Whittaker, bradley walsh and the team are FANTASTIC though and have been let down by poor writers.
A real shame :/
