The show was good until they brought the disastrous scene of an Arabic prince, which single-handedly offended the entire Arabic peninsula and even worse was the reaction of the production crew, not even clearly apologising to the community that was misrepresented. For the record, Saudi Arabia is not the only country that have Arabic princes; there are 22 politically-affiliated Arab countries, and Arabic being the 5th most spoken language in the world with 319 million native Arabs (which is a population of a country as big as the United States) it would be given that not only Saudi Arabians would be upset. The production crew’s level of understanding something as simple as this and the way they in turn dealt with the backlash from Arabs was clearly very poor, they did not even release the official “apology” in Arabic to address it to the people of the Arabic community that don’t speak English. There are many Arab kdrama fans who have been disappointed by these series of events, we believed that at least the production crew would research a bit more into our community values and religion. To think that even now, they still haven’t removed that awful episode from Netflix. I think that if this is how Korea chooses to represent Arabs in the future in their dramas then they will definitely sever their relations with Arabs in no time.
