I really got into reading Malamud after reading The Ghost Writer by Philip Roth. I have been reading everything I can get my hands in by Malamud since. While I was recovering from back surgery I read one story each night from his classic book The Magic Barrel. Such a great collection of short stories. I now have to put Malamud as a short story writer along with O’Henry, Maupesant and yes with Anton Chekhov too.
