(NON-SPOILER) Just watched the movie, and oh my god. Everything I've wanted and more. Sure, the beginning was slow-paced, but I believe it could be intended that way. The acting, attention to detail, and roles are exquisite and, in my opinion, could not be any better than they already are. I've been a fan since the very beginning and I'm extremely pleased with the results. Thank you, Scott, Blum house, and everything that worked on this movie, it's props, and screenplay. Highly recommend you to watch it, especially if you're a big fan of the franchise.
I went in with pretty mixed expectations, the 1-star reviews made me pay extra attention to everything. And to those 1-star reviews... You can dislike the movie, but I think it's a gem. I'm pleased after 8 1/2 years of waiting.
(SPOILERS AHEAD.)
Mike's dreams were very reminiscent of the 4th game. I thought so, at least. I'm going to explain more on the pacing and why I think it was a good idea to make the movie slow in the beginning.
In the first game, or any Five Night's at Freddy's game, the first and second night are pretty easy. As the nights progress, it gets more intense, and the animatronics become more hostile. I think that's what the movie was going for, and I personally believe that was the perfect move for this movie.
I do think at some points of the story, it is hard to understand... But again, it could be intended that way. The lore in the games are complex, and most of the time the players (ourselves) have to tie the loose ends together, and the movie intends to take that piece of the game and interpret in it's own way.
The cameos were perfect, and I loved it. MatPat's appearance was to be expected, but when he said "It's a theory" I lost it. CoreyxKenshin being the taxi driver was hilarious, and everyone in the cinema loved it as well.
Okay, let's get to the good stuff... Matthew Lillard as William Afton/Spring Bonnie (Or SpringTrap). He did an absolutely amazing job, but it's a shame he only appeared on screen for a few minutes at the end. He was definitely underutilized, however every second he was on screen, it was absolutely spectacular. He did a phenomenal job acting, and he was a perfect fit for the Afton character.
Bonnie is my favorite character in the series, and the movie, so when he fell over I lost it. It was genuinely hilarious to me. Just a small thing I wanted to add in because Bonnie holds a special place in my heart.
Vanessa being William's daughter caught me off guard, but it was honestly very cool. It sort of ties into the whole Vanny/Vanessa thing in Security Breach.
I think the fact the animatronics were being nice to Abby was a smart direction to go in, although some people will be mad about it and call it the "We Are FNaF!" trope, it's very clever. The animatronics NEEDED to be nice, so they could gain Abby's trust, and eventually attempt to springlock her and 'make her like them' (Although it was just William controlling them.)
I can't wait to watch it over tomorrow and pick out all of the easter eggs.
Overall, I honestly think the movie was a complete banger, and if there is ever a second movie in this franchise, I will gladly wait another year for it. 10/10, 100/100. Go watch it for yourself in theaters!!!
