Is this the Asian 'Game of Thrones"? I stumbled upon the drama randomly in Netflix but then finished the whole 51 episodes almost at a stretch despite a huge pile of work. The power games, intrigues, plot twists, rivalries, love yearnings rival that of the Game of Thrones.
Ha Ji-Won is outstanding and compelling in her presence throughout from a tomboy to the future empress. Ta Hwan's quiet dying in Yang's arms at the end was rather sad. Couldn't the writers have given him some more time, riding into the northern wilderness with his beloved Yang? I wish they had. The ever composed TalTal, Yeoncheol as the villanous grand councillor were compelling. And what about the tragic Yeon Bisu, dying in Wang Yu's arms.
Compared to Game of Thrones, the love plots felt more real and left a sadder taste.
