Oath Godslayer

First off, this game isn't Final Fantasy. It's a rated M game unlike any other title before it. It earns this rating through cringey sexual content, use of the F word and over done bloody visuals and hangings. It also has a great deal of prejudice towards a group of people and is a prominent theme throughout the game. That said, here's a breakdown by category. Combat: 6/10 Combat is entirely unintuitive, gives no reason to build your character in any specific way and you'll find yourself mashing square most of the time to win fights. This is true with and without the accessibility friendly accessories. Story: 6/10 Nothing in this story is original but that's to be expected as fantasy has been written every which way. The reason why this game gets such a low mark is that foreshadowing is downright awful. Everything is predictable if you pay attention for even two seconds. The characters are shallow and barely change save for the MC ofc. Individual character arcs are also short lived. You need to read into the characters stories through a lore function if you want anything extra but it's all unnecessary which is why it's behind a separate function. The entire game is linear. Every dungeon is a railroad with 99% locked doors. Exploration is minimal. Eikon Battles: 4/10 They're big. They're flashy. They're easy. That's all they are. Mash square or triangle to win while staying mobile to dodge attacks that look like they won't hit you anyway. The best fight is arguably against a very big guy but by the end of each Eikon battle, you'll find yourself wondering why you even did it. The game would do better to reduce the health of the Eikons. It just makes the battles long for no good reason. Soundtrack: 2/10 FF has always been orchestral and while this game does have a handful, the majority of it is atmospheric noise to keep the game from being entirely quiet. The music is just awful and won't have you whistling to it the way old FF games did. There's also no constant Chocobo theme song when riding which is just flat out wrong. Graphics: 9/10 Really won with the graphics I guess. Good for you Square. Side Quests and Hunt Quests: 5/10 Typical RPG stuff. Nothing special. Nothing innovative. Crafting: 8/10 Crafting in 16 is great. It has very low impact in that you won't find yourself grinding materials and that's how it should be in a single player RPG. Final Score: 5.7/10 This game could have been a lot better. The reviews gloating about how great it is are from people sold on new age gaming, DLCs, season passes and people who have just accepted the nose dive in the gaming industry. Don't be one of them. Tell the devs where they suck so they'll stop producing trash.
