I am not one to usually write a review, but after watching the series I knew I had no other choice. I’d like to begin by saying there are no words that can fully express how excellent this film is. From the stellar performances of the entire cast to the amazing work of Ava DuVernay bringing such a sensitive story to light. For that I thank everyone involved in this project. It is so rare to see the entire black community come together for one common goal to expose the truth of our justice system, racism, and the lives of those incarcerated. The system we depend on in our worst moments that continues to fail us. Guilty till proven innocent is the mentality Linda Fairstein and all of her accomplices had in 1989. It was so necessary for the “Central Park 5” story to be shared. The young boys at the time immediately were exposed to a flawed system that ultimately damaged their lives forever. The obstacles the men faced in prison and after will forever leave a lifelong scar on them. They were deprived of a childhood and lost years of their lives that they can never get back. This film allowed me to take a step back and really look at what was going on, and really look at the social injustices that is Embedded in this nation. This film has caused a lot of conversation, A conversation that should’ve been had in 1989 when those boys were wrongfully convicted of a crime they did not commit. What really drove me to write this review was the compelling performance of the actor Jharrel Jerome. This young man did a phenomenal job embodying Korey Wise. Viewers were able to connect multiple emotions to his experience because of Jerome. He graced the role with respect and touched the hearts of everyone. I also want to commend the rest of the cast who also gave an outstanding performance and brought the TRUTH to the world. This film was needed and hopefully sparks major change in the world. Probably one of the best series I’ve ever seen. Although it’s hard to watch, it’s the truth. To Raymond, Korey, Antron, Yusuf, and Kevin you guys are strong, and your story is heard. Now it’s time to take these conflicting emotions from the film and turn it in to a real change in the justice system.
