I loved this historical fiction book. It shares great insight into the thoughts, feelings, and realities surrounding the lives of both black and white people along with the realities and differences for men and women during the Civil War's beginning. It has beautiful descriptions that bring alive the scenery and actions of the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It does have some sensitive topics involved that may lead to some hard discussion with children but this book is a wonderful sharing of the history of our nation and our people. Very relevant!
