These games were a huge disappointment. Rockstar really wasted time and resources on this lazy project.
My expectations were extremely high since Rockstar mislead everyone by claiming the game would have modern “GTA V style” controls. The only GTA V aspect to the game is the weapon and radio station wheel.
The PC version is the better of the bunch. With the Switch version essentially being a PS2 port. You should only get the Switch version if you’ve always wanted to play these three games on the go legitimately. But don’t expect much visual improvements on the switch version since the games looks the same as they did back on the PS2.
I don’t have an issue with Rockstar re-releasing these games all over again. My issue is that Rockstar didn’t utilize the unreal engine to its full potential. They could have added a new combat system similar to GTA V’s and added modern controls. These games still feel like PS2 games. They’re rough and awkward.
The most hated missions in these games actually have far worse controls than they previously did. I couldn’t even pilot the RC plane in ‘Supply Lines’ It feels like Rockstar gave us the middle finger for not liking those missions.
The games are fundamentally still the same as we remember. On the bright side they can still be a lot of fun if you accept the fact that they’re PS2 ports and pretend that you didn’t pay $60. Evidently it’s Rockstar’s misleading and grimy business practices that made this project a mess. They didn’t even bother releasing proper gameplay footage.
Overall, the best advice I can give any potential player is to keep your expectations extremely low. That way you won’t be as disappointed as I was when you realize that you paid $60 for a bunch of glitchy PS2 games. I had to buy the switch version since I couldn’t even play the PC version for 2 days since Rockstar took the game down. So ultimately I paid $120 just to experience this mess. Thanks a lot Rockstar.
