Well after watching this movie, I'm a little confused. Why did Nora decide to blow herself up with the sea monsters? Surely she could have found oxygen at the base and find another way to stay alive while finding a way to reach the surface. I just think it was not handled properly and was a little bit rushed.
But I don't get why the critics lambasted this movie, after watching it I got a feeling that hey? is not that bad.Or maybe it's the fact that the plot have been done before: people trapped in an underwater structure and have to reach the surface all while having to survive horrible underwater monsters?
Yeah it might be cliché, but I feel the directing by William Eubank was engaging and exciting. It was well done, I mean they had me fooled.
Another interesting thing in the movie is when captain Lucien played by Vincent Cassel says to his crew in the deep bore access tunnel that '' we're halfway there guys, have way there'' it was half way through the movie! 43 mins I believe.Seems like the director is telling the audience that we're halfway through the movie.Maybe it is a coincidence or maybe not, talk about dual messages, nice.
Likable characters are what moves a movie on with the audience and this movie had it filled with them. From what the movie says it seems they were a lot of people in the underwater drilling station, but since most of them died and some made it to the surface we are only treated to about 5 characters.Kristen Stewart was great playing Nora, if it wasn't for the ending were the writers decided to blow her have to make her the hero, I would have enjoyed the film more, TJ Miller provided humor with his character Paul and Jessica Henwick was really believable as Emily: as many people would have reacted like her in her situation. And Vincent Cassel played the captain role very well.
All in all not a bad movie, certainly not as bad as the critics say it was. But could have been better, I think Jessica Henwick
and Kristen Stewart elevated the movie with their performances.
NO not bad, not bad at all.
