Honestly, this film is a masterpiece. As someone who has been reading DC comics and following the batman's character as a child I was anxious to watch the movie, as i was afraid that I would be let down. I wasn't let down whatsoever.
From the opening scene of the riddler surveying his victim, to the introduction of Robert Pattinson's batman, I knew I was witnessing true art. The way the bat signal instilled fear into all the criminals really displayed the presence of Batman. The musical motif that would play every time Robert Pattinson was about to get into a confrontation was chilling. The colour palette, the cinematography was breathtaking.
Matt reeve's interpretation of Gotham was extremely accurate and a breath of fresh air.
Now to the characters. Robert Pattinson exceeded all expectations and was able to pull off a more recluse Bruce Wayne. The Film's focus on Batman's detective aspect was also amazing to see as he was able to answer the earlier riddles with such ease. It was a realistic take on the caped crusader and humanised him. The relationship between Bruce and Alfred was touching to see and i wish that there were more interactions between them.
Zoe Kravitz was honestly so perfect for Selina Kyle. It was better than TDK's version, since it showed more depth behind the character, not just the cat burglar. The film stripped the character's down to their human aspects where there are points filled with emotion that are powerful. The relationship between batman and catwoman does not focus on their romance, but more as partners. I like this adaptation more since it gives more room for their relationship to grow and will add more weight behind it.
Paul Dano. Wow! his version of the riddler was obviously inspired by the hush storyline which is more sinister and manipulative. Although people criticise his costume, I think that it's realistic in the sense of what a serial killer who's cautious about leaving dna trails would wear. His dialogue was thought provoking and paralleled those of Batman. In that way, Joker and him differ. His performance of a sadistic and psychopathic mastermind was truly impeccable.
There's a lot of people who won't like this film purely due to the darker tone that contrasts the MCU. It's not the run-of the mill superhero movie. It's more than that... It comments on the greed of human beings and the corruptness of higher-up officials. It will be a classic. THANK YOU MATT REEVES
