I was 10 when this series began. I watched the other Westerns with my family. Frankly, Westerns just about ruled back in the day. Variety and some sitcoms but mostly Westerns. I found, even at 10, the character fascinating. "PALADIN." I asked about that name. My dad said, "Look it up." I did. The character was calm, confident and managed to accomplish his task with a minimum of violence. And, he could take as good as he could give and bounce back. "Paladin" with his intriguing business card and his luxurious surroundings in San Francisco, turning into a "GUN FOR HIRE." was never a disappointment to me. His intelligence was obvious in his spoken word. His manner of handling his "assignment" with a minimum of fuss and careful observation was a delight to me. I became busy in my early teens and seldom watched the program. I was delighted to see the program on my local tv listing. I doubted that my early memories would hold up as far as my enjoyment would go. I was wrong! Even now, at 73, I can appreciate the program all the more!! With all the violence in our world now, on the streets AND on out tvs and in our movies, Paladin is a fine example of handling difficult situations and people without being overly loud, vulgar and violent. An older day type of hero, sure. But a better example than most these days, be it a Western, a Cop Show, or even some Comedies these days. Watch a few episodes. Learn calm under stress and control without unnecessary killing. Happy Watching!!
