Just finished reading it for the first time, twenty-three years after release. It still holds up. This is truly one of the best nonfiction books I've read, and certainly the best memoir. Bourdain's humor and prose, which peeks through on his TV shows, is turned up to full blast. There are some truly shocking, horrifying, magnificent stories in here. The narrative never gets bogged down, there are no boring bits, almost every sentence is fun to read. A must-read if you have even the slightest interest in cooking, food, crime, drugs, or life.
