The movie came out in 2019. I literally watched this evening in the year of our lord 2023. And I didn’t even watch the entire things. The 1994 OG is a stand alone film and its obvious the 2019 live remake was a desperate effort to bring in the millennial back to theaters. The most iconic parts of the OG film was always the interaction with Simba and Mufasa. The interaction after Mufasa saved Simba from hyenas and explains the symbolism of the stars, the death of Mufasa, which I still blame Simba, and finally the most powerful interaction when Mufasa reveals himself one last time through an apparition in the sky.
Now with all that said when “viewing” the 2019 live remake, because i didn’t truly watch it, I skipped to all three interactions previously mentioned in the 1994 OG film and I literally felt nothing. The 1994 OG film brought excitement and chills. The 2019 live remake was dull, awkward, and lifeless. I’m glad I did t waste my entire time. And my eyes rolled when they felt obligated to make it an all black cast that was talentless, except maybe Beyoncé and James Earl Jones. and a gay or gender less meerkat. James Earl Jones who is just way too talented for this remake.
