I've never been so annoyed by a character before. Evangeline Fox is annoying, naive and everything in between. I had to take frequent breaks from reading this book just relax myself because this book was so tiring and infuriating. Or, let me not say the book, EVANGELINE was so tiring and infuriating. Why do I feel like the book would have been better without her? I mean, people make mistakes but this....THIS? Her parents taught her a lot of things but nothing pertaining to decision making. I get the plot, the way the author has a nice way of writing and Jacks is an interesting character, so I don't exactly regret reading this book but my time was still wasted. I just hope the next book in the series is good.

I came into this book thinking it was going to be yet another cute love story, which it was but that wasn't the focus. Grace Porter falling in love was not the focus. It was about a beautiful black woman fighting to live in a country not made for her, and finding herself outside of who she was told to be. It was about her breaking down the system she knew and grew into, and building one where she could be happy without feeling guilty instead of "running herself into the ground." I'm grateful to this author and this book. This novel is relatable and it is reality. One that should be spoken of and represented more.

Ms. Levenseller wrote everything in a way where everything fell beautifully into place and even if I didn't expect certain things, I was never confused. Everything made perfect sense. When the book ended, I caught myself skipping pass the "about author" page, HOPING that a surprise chapter was back there. I love Alessandra and Kallias, and their relationship. I love how they trust each other and I love how everything played out. I really wish I could read this for the first time again.
