A seminal narrative, which explores the intellectual consequences of a man's nostalgic journey back to the village of his birth. The story is set just prior to WWII. In many ways we are looking at Orwell's vision of a pre-war society slipping unawares toward political and social chaos. A world at odds with itself, where the past is ignored, brutalised and forgotten. I was changed profoundly by this novel.
