Kept me on my toes for 30 minutes, then when the “defend-and-fight” sequence began, it started becoming lacklustre. There could have been a better execution of the said sequence if only the use of the environment the characters were placed in was maximized (they were in a mall, so there were several possibilities that could have been explored besides bombs and electric barricades - which did not even work so well). The acting was great, but the script was quite cheesy with backstories that felt randomly inserted. Eddie’s (Antonio Banderas) character could have been more explored as a B-story, especially with the issue of him having a psychological problem introduced at the beginning but never mentioned again after the main problem arises. Supporting characters could also have been given more background and stronger relationships, but they are treated more like pawns on a chessboard, with Eddie as the king. The cinematography was good but felt a little flat at times. Soundtrack did well to keep the film suspenseful. TLDR: the scriptwriters had a lot to work with but didn’t bring the best out of those things.
