Hi. I watched this wonderful film when it was first released in 2011. Since then, I have bought the DVD which has been incredibly hard to find and buy.it is so popular..
The film shows the dedication of the six young dancers' parents. They made huge sacrifices to help their youngsters. I was impressed by the strong marriages all the parents had, so that the young people had happy homes to relax in, after their very stressful days at their ballet schools.
Everyone should see this film, whether you love ballet or not, because it also teaches life lessons...eg hold fast to your dream...,how to co-operate with others...don't give up, if you stumble...keep going and other lessons..
I had no idea that this dance competition(the Youth America Grand Prix) was held regularly in New York, It is of a tremendously high standard. All the dancing in this film, was pure jo to watch and in some parts, I had tears trickling down my face..(I am 77yrs piano teacher in Auckland NZ)) I was so deeply moved. The two boys the cameras followed, definately showed us that ballet is not 'sissy' and only for girls. It is very hard work and is for boys who are strong both physically and emotionally. GO AND SEE IT!
