An absolute movie classic. This movie ushered in the original golden age of early horror movies that also saw the birth of other iconic horror characters like Frankenstein, the Wolfman & the Mummy .Dracula is not frightening compared modern horror movies. The movie was groundbreaking for what was the early era of sound film introducing the masses to a new genre of film called horror which a genre previewed by Nosferatu in the early 1920s during silent film era. It cannot be measured against modern horror movies as even movies like the Exorcist ,which was shocking for the early 1970s ,has been considered by the younger generation dated compared to modern standards of horror. Dracula was horror for its period of time & more importantly did lay the foundation for the entire horror movie genre. Without the original Dracula, there would be no modern vampire flicks.
